Cobalt Oxide
Packaging: 100 gr (0,22 lb) - 1 kg (2,20 lb)
Soluble in water and acids 72% Co. Cobalt oxide is used as a very strong colorant to obtain blue tones. However, since it has a very hard structure, it must be used by grinding very well. It gives green colors with bluish, lilac, dark lilac and titanium additives in its composition with phosphate and arsenate. Increasing zinc oxide and magnesium oxide in glaze compositions increases the dyeing power and effect of cobalt oxide. Colors become brighter and more beautiful. The highest contribution rate in glazes is around 6%. If the ratio increases, the color of the glaze changes from dark blue to black. If the amount of additive increases, foaming will occur in the glaze, causing pinholes on the glaze surface due to oxygen outflow. Cobalt oxide is also used as a good crystal former in crystal glazes. It creates all tones of blue from light blue to dark blue in glazes. Since it is very hard, it must be grinded very well. otherwise it will not dissolve in the secret. (we have grinded) The addition of 1-2% CoO in cobalt oxide glaze creates a blue color, the addition of 2-4% CoO creates a dark blue color and more than 6% a black color. It gives a lively and bright appearance in leaded and alkaline glazes.
